Credentials
I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Ohio. My license number is I.1101086 to verify my credentials you can go to the website for the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board.
Education
In 2008 I earned my Masters of Social Work from The Ohio State University. As a graduate student in that program I gained specialized training working with GLBTQ youth and researching identity disorders. Since the times of my undergraduate and graduate work in Women’s Studies (at Smith College, University of Maryland Baltimore County, and OSU) I have been particularly interested in the ways our identities are created and transformed through social, cultural, historical, political, familial and emotional processes. My work as a therapist is deeply influenced by my understanding that none of us exist in a vacuum and instead our sense of self is embedded in a variety of relationships. Therefore, growth, healing, and change can only occur through a process of working through these relationships.
Experience
I have been working as a therapist for six years now. Much of that time has been spent in community mental health agencies providing counseling and psychotherapy to people with a wide variety of issues. In my own practice I work with individuals, couples, adolescents and children.
What I Believe
Alice Miller writes “[i]n order to become whole we must try . . . to discover our own personal truth”. My role as a therapist is to support and guide you through your process of discovering, digesting and then transforming your truth so that you may become the person you want to be.
I have several years of experience treating clients recovering from complex childhood traumas and dissociative disorders, as well as mood instability, depression, anxiety and identity questions. The most wonderful moments for me are when my clients are able to enjoy and accept themselves– that is success.
I have fun coaching people through their work of finding their own strength and power– whether they felt they never had power or lost it through a distressing event. As a Gestalt therapist I believe we are all able to recover this strength and create the lives we want.
